Game On_Sports: Empowering Ambulatory Children and Adolescents with Cerebral Palsy in Urban and Diverse Communities to Engage in Physical Activity
Speaker: Katherine Dimitropoulou, Ph.D., OTR/L, MSPOR
Children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) face functional challenges due to motor constraints that affect motor control, and participation in daily tasks. For those who are ambulatory, daily activities such as navigating the school grounds or participating in gym class, can be taxing, thus limiting their propensity to participate in community activities. Adolescents and eventually young adults with CP are less physically active than their typically developing peers. The Game_On program seeks to understand factors that affect adolescent participation, and with this community’s input, develop a sports program that is adaptable to their needs.
